Game Apps on OLED Displays!
2012 has proved to be a lucky year for OLED technology as the big players in electronics world have introduced thinner, smarter, and better OLED displays in the market. Although they are now too expensive for the average consumers to afford, we are hopeful that very soon affordable OLED televisions will be available at stores near us.
OLED lighting was perhaps the first market segment in which this innovative technology was introduced. Even though it is not considered as a suitable option for domestic lighting today due to its high costs, experts believe that huge OLED lighting panels for office use will be the next big thing in lighting applications.
The research and development wing of Universal Display Corporation (UDC), a materials firm has been working on eliminating the efficiencies and drawbacks of OLED to enable the widespread adoption of this technology. UDC is credited for developing phosphorescent OLED technology that is used in most of the AMOLED products available in the market.
The key OLED display manufacturers around the world are licensed by UDC, and some of them are Samsung, Panasonic Idemitsu Lighting, Philips, Sony, Pioneer, Konica Minolta, AUO, Lumiotec, Chi Mei/Innolux, and LG, to name a few.
As the OLED industry stands on the verge of an unexpected boom, other companies may also want to rub their shoulders with the biggies in the PHOLED industry sector. The two main companies contending for this market segment are Duksan and Sun Fine Chemical.
Recently, UDC has signed deals with several companies for further development and growth of PHOLED technology. As competition in this market segment gains momentum, we can predict for a brighter future for OLED and hope to find cheaper OLED displays in the market – until then let’s wait and watch!

Since the last one year, the market of OLED displays has witnessed a phenomenal growth which has sparked a belief that finally OLED will realize its actual potential and change things for better in our lives. Today, the AMOLED displays which were almost unthinkable a decade ago have become the mainstream products with Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones, taking OLED technology to a whole new level.
