Solitaire
So the big question then becomes, why should you pay even a measly dollar to play a game you could play on your own with a deck of cards, or play on your computer for free? Well, firstly it’s mobile. So is a deck of cards, but try playing solitaire in the back seat of a car with cards; good luck.
But even aside from that convenience factor, this edition of solitaire has a lot more going for it. There are different scoring options available, and even online leaderboards. You have various options for graphics, from the design of the card fronts and backs, to the backgrounds you play on. Sure beats staring at the same old solitaire screen for the thousandth time. There’s also an autosave feature for when you need to shut down or get a call.
The graphic designs of the backgrounds are somewhat hit and miss; some of them were very garish and almost painful on the eyes, while others were perfect. But with the amount of backgrounds available, there’s sure to be a few that will tickle your background fancy. Likewise with the card designs; some designs were a little too jarring for my liking, but there are plenty of deck designs that will interest you.
As for the game itself, it’s…well, solitaire. And it’s fun. You have a series of columns that have numerous cards face down, with one card beneath them face up. Your job is to uncover all of the face down cards and arrange all of the cards into numerical order in all four suits. You accomplish this by moving the available cards around to uncover new cards. Cards can be moved to a new column if they are in the proper numerical order to fit in a new column. You also have a deck of cards to work with to help you fill in some of the blanks and help you connect the dots…er, cards. This deck can be reshuffled continuously.
It’s a simple but addictive game that can keep people playing for hours, and is the perfect time waster on the iPhone. Whether you’re challenging yourself to beat your previous best time, or simply enjoying a relaxing game of card flipping fun, solitaire is a game that you’ll never grow tired of, and should be a part of every gamer’s collection.
