Clue

Clue is a classic board game played between multiple competitors, in which the players must determine through their deductive capacities, who committed the crime in questions, where they committed said crime, and with what. This…this is not that game.
Surprisingly, this version of Clue is not an iPhone port of the board game, but a completely original game more akin to some of the other detective style games on the market, like the Ace Attorney games. This will surely be a disappointment to many fans of the board game who were expecting something else; and in looking at some of the reviews on the App Store, it does indeed seem that many people were ‘fooled’ into thinking this was the board game.
While the game may come as a disappointment to some because of this, that doesn’t mean it should be disregarded as a game. In fact, if you strip away the name of the game and judge it based solely on its own merits, there’s actually a lot here to like.
There are 10 crimes to solve, and you must gather the evidence and clues necessary to determine who committed the crime, and how they pulled it off. You do this by examining areas for clues, and interviewing various people, who may help point you to the location of said clues. All of these clues and others notes of interest are kept tabs of, which makes it easy to go back through the evidence and come to a conclusion.
While there are only 10 crimes to solve, the cases do get randomized, so you can actually play through the game multiple times and still enjoy figuring out the cases. The actual clues and crimes aren’t overly compelling, but have just enough elements of intrigue to keep you interested and searching for the villain. Your statistics are also saved, so it gives you added incentive to put your best detective foot forward on each case.
The graphical style is quite unique and looks good on the whole. The environments and characters have a realistic, though slightly dark cartoony look to them that really fits this game to a tee. The music also fits the vibe perfectly, and gets your in that detective frame of mind.
The only element that doesn’t quite mesh with the game is the time feature, which I found to be unnecessary, though it didn’t necessarily impact the game all that often. Other than that, Clue offers a good series of whodunits that should keep gamers interested, and possibly even replaying over and over again. It’s isn’t quite what was expected from the title, but doesn’t suffer unduly because of it.
