Baseball Superstars 2 Pro
Baseball Superstars 2 Pro is its own beast though, and has its own wacky sense of humor and style. Like Power Pros, you can create players in a career mode, or play through a season mode. Unlike Power Pros, the characters you can create or unlock are awesome. How about stepping into the batter’s box as a nurse with a giant needle as a bat? Or as a samurai warrior with a massive horned batting helmet?
The graphical style isn’t just unique, the graphics are also outstanding. This is the best looking baseball game I’ve come across on iPhone yet, no doubt about it. The characters and stadiums look great, the game animates well, and even the skies are picturesque.
BS2P is more than just a pretty face though; there’s loads of depth to be found here. The My League mode allows you to train and develop your players, equip them with items, and upgrade their abilities. It’s like a fully fledged game mode in itself, never mind the fact that you can actually play the games as well.
There’s also a mission mode, where you’re plopped down in specific scenarios and need to accomplish an often improbable feat to emerge victorious. These quick and challenging scenarios are very fun in their own right.
At the heart of baseball games are the pitcher batter interface, and BS2P has a good one. On the pitching side you can select which pitches to throw, where to aim, and then must time a power meter to keep maximum velocity and action on your pitches. It’s a little simpler on the hitting side, as you mainly just need to pick a good pitch to swing at and then time it properly to give it a good ride.
The one thing you’ll notice about the gameplay is that the play in the field is very sped up. Runners fly around the bases and fielders throw laser beams to the bases. It does not look natural in the least, and can even make defense more challenging than it should be, as you only have split seconds to decide which base to throw to and then execute it.
This game is an absolute steal for the price, as there are hours and hours of fun baseball action to be had. Don’t be surprised if you’re compelled to finish entire seasons and create multiple characters. This is currently the best baseball game on the iPhone.
