Guitar Hero: Metallica Review

The developers have really struck gold with Guitar Hero, I mean there’s a Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: The Beatles, Guitar hero: World Tour and yes, now there is Guitar Hero Metallica, is it any coincide that the bands they’re choosing to make games based on happen to be the best selling acts of their respective genres?.......this was rhetorical.
Guitar Hero Metallica is essentially Guitar hero 3 except you guessed it in this game you are Metallica, similar to Guitar Hero Beatles and the Guitar Hero Aerosmith that preceded it.  This game is one of those games that doesn’t really need a review.

Basically if you like Metallica, get this game, if you’re not particularly interested in Metallica you’d be wasting your money.  But aside from this one key point that should make or break your decision, this is a solid game and probably one of the best looking Guitar hero’s to date by a long shot.  The game is very identical to Guitar hero World Tour, the character creation is also very similar, the characters are extremely well detailed and unlike Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero:

Metallica’s animations actually look like the band members from Metallica, I thought that the Aerosmith game could have done a better job at integrating the characters, well this time around they got it right.  The lighting also looks much better than the original along and the performances feel huge, bigger than their actual live performance I would think.  The crows are the best looking crowds yet, although they all do the same thing at once, they look incredibly detailed and are very diverse.  The cool thing in this game is like in Rock Band you can play as each one of the band members including drums.

That means you can get your best Metallica fan buddies together and become Metallica.

There’s a ton of gameplay here, the music catalogue contains over 20 years worth of Metallica’s recordings, so there’s a huge selection of Metallica songs and likely will have everyone of your favourite.  But don’t fret if you get a little tired of hearing James Hetfields southern Baritoned voice the game has included 20 extra songs that aren’t Metallica songs so you can get a little bit of a break from Metallica before playing Enter Sandman for the gazillionth time.

One of the things I noticed right away about this game is how good the sounds quality is in this game, Metallica has never sounded so good, the songs have clearly been remastered because the sound quality is exceptional, the drums sound so crisp, and they sound better than the original Metallica songs.   But this game is definitely not for the beginner Guitar hero player, this game is probably the most difficult Guitar Hero game to date and was definitely not designed for player just getting into Guitar Hero.

The bottom line is this is the best Guitar Hero game to date, but that’s not particularly relevant, Whether or not this game is worth the purchase really depends on one factor.....how much do you like Metallica?

Rating: 89%
Pros:
Definitely the best looking Guitar Hero game yet
Remastered Metallica songs sound better than they do on their actual albums
You get to play as Metallica
Cons:
If you’re not a Metallica fan than you’re out of luck
This game is probably the most difficult Guitar Hero yet, if you’re a beginner you might have hard time
