Angry Birds Seasons - Review

Angry Birds Seasons is the sequel to the smash hit Angry Birds, and delivers more of what made the first game such a resounding success: more angry birds, more evil pigs (now with 100% more leprechaun hats!), more devilishly difficult stars to collect, and more physics-based puzzles to deliberate over or simply plow through.
What’s changed?

Honestly, not much. And that’s just the way we like it. What was first released as Angry Birds Halloween has since been updated with additional levels and themes, and renamed Angry Birds Seasons. The new levels sported in this sequel are quite challenging, and will put the hours of practice time you spent honing your skills on the original to the test.

The graphics and gameplay have remained largely the same, with only minor touch-ups. Your angry bird abilities will be familiar to you as well, as you have the same exploding, bomb dropping birds, and the same structures and surfaces to fling them into (with or without prejudice). Each level also has the same optional challenge of collecting all the stars and mastering the level, which, when coupled with the already more challenging levels, will be quite a fowl feat.

Why does everyone love it so?

What makes Angry Birds appeal to the masses is that while it’s a strategy game at heart, it never reaches a point of frustration where a gamer is ready to chuck his or her iPhone at a pig and re-enact the game themselves. Even when things seem impossible, searching for the solution through experimentation is always fun and rewarding, and can lead to some amazing and unexpected results.

Those mass chain reactions that bring down an entire level quite by accident are oft times more fun to witness than even the best laid plans being successfully borne out, and it’s a thrill that any gamer can experience.

While some gamers may scoff at a strategy game where trial and error can and often will get you through levels without much difficulty, it can still be played in a methodical fashion, and the challenge of collecting all the stars on every level will keep even the savviest of gamers occupied for many a bird-flinging hour.

Angry Birds Seasons isn’t a huge step up from the original, but not every game needs to reinvent the wheel. The concept works, and hasn’t worn out its welcome by a long shot (I’m looking at you music games). If you couldn’t get enough of the original, or somehow missed out on it, you can’t do wrong starting or continuing your Angry Birds journey with Seasons.
