Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock Review
There’s not much you can fault this game on, the game is super fun especially when you have a couple of friends over. It can quickly become the source of some healthy competition. Everything in this game has been stepped up from Guitar Hero 2, the graphics and animations look much better, there’s a greater character selection include Slash and Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, you can also make customizable characters. There’s a ton of songs in this game, and there’s a wide variety of genres and sub genres that are covered, also all the covers are the original recordings so you don’t have to bear the brunt of listening to painful covers.
Not only did I like the diversity in the tracks and was pleased to see that a few of the tracks were actually favourites of mines, but I was really pleased with interface and look of the game. The notes and the fretboards look much cleaner and more detailed than they did in Rock Band and certainly look better than they did in the previous guitar hero, now lighting up when you hit them. The game even features starpower which is something you can attain when hitting a certain number of notes in a row that gives you double points.
What I liked most about Guitar Hero 3 is it’s much more challenging than previous versions of the game and really reels you in. Expert mode is incredibly difficult but I had a lot of fun attempting one of the songs and eventually once I got the hang of it could see how this game could be extremely addictive. Getting a sequence of notes correct or a certain riff right left me feeling like I genuinely accomplished something which I cannot say for similar games like Rock band. The new Battle mode really lifts up the co-op mode of the game, now you can go head to head with a friend to see who can obtain a higher score, or if you’re on expert mode, see who can make it through the song before getting booed off the stage. I found this to be a genuinely exciting experience and had a lot of fun with it. The new Guitars also have a wammy bar. Certain notes will require you to make use of the wammy bar and sustain the note for a certain period of time, adding yet another dimension to what was already a sufficiently challenging game. This game is hard, let me tell you, while there is an easy option which is playable by beginners, this game definitely is aimed at the hardened guitar hero player who’s looking for that next level challenge. All an all this is a great game for anyone who’s looking for something to play with friends.
Rating: 90% - The best Guitar Hero Yet.
Pros:
Great party game to play with friends
Sufficiently challenging game for all those veteran Guitar Hero Player’s out there
A plethora of songs
Cons:
None
