Battlefield: Bad Company
In the single player campaign you play as Private Preston Marlowe, you’ve been recently reassigned to what is called the B Company, which is essentially a collection of disposables that the Army prefers to send into battle first, you know to test the waters. The Single player campaign was not the best I’ve seen from military based FPS games, despite being part of a company, I felt like I was playing alone, the rest of my platoon is apparently immortal, yea that’s right they have nothing to fear while my life is on the line, this leaves little incentive for them to work together and as result they don’t, they’re sort of just there.
The only thing they really do is provide comic relief and lift objectives. The AI was unfortunately nearing atrocious and I found myself frequently frustrated and almost shouting at the screen at times. Though multiplayer requires you to coordinate with your teammates there is no co-op campaign mode, so even if you’d like to play through the single campaign mode with a friend, you can’t, you’re stuck with computer allies.
Not surprisingly the enemy AI wasn’t any better, the enemies almost never used cover, they just stood out in the open making them easy to pick off. To some up the single campaign, its mediocre at best and not why I would advise you by this game. What completely redeems Bad Company from its less than stellar singly player campaign is its intuitive multi player experience, make no mistake about it, this game was designed for multiplayer.
Bad Company`s multiplayer campaign is solid, backed by massive maps that support up to 24 players, an impressive selection of vehicles, including tanks, Helicopters, and even boats, not to mention laser-guided rocket turrets. With Bad Company’s looming ranking system, unlockables and perfectly balanced maps Bad Company is without a margin of a doubt the most addicting multiplayer shooter currently on the market even laying to waste Call of Duty 4.
The sound in Bad Company is also very well done, everything sounds so realistic, Sniper shots resonate so perfectly and indoor fire fights are so loud its hard to forget that you’re not actually there. You can almost tell how far away a firefight is just by listening, that’s how dead on this games sound is. The visuals while by no means bad, aren`t the best on the market, Call of Duty 4 wins in this department, but not by much.
My biggest problems were the graphics, they were somewhat fuzzy and not particularly detailed, the graphics, while as I said they’re not bad, just a few minor defects, but I`ve seen better. The destructible environments however compensate for the less than perfect graphics and made me immediately forgive the developers for coming up short in this area. You can just assume that they spent the time they otherwise would have spent chipping away at the graphic defects crafting the most realistic explosions ever.
The bottom Line: Battlefield Bad Company is by no means a perfect game, the graphics aren`t as good as other games in its genre, the single player campaign as well as the AI has its flaws, but let’s be real, Bad Company wasn`t meant to be a single player game. This is a multiplayer game, and in this department there is no contest. Bad Company 2 delivers by far the best multiplayer experience out there.
Verdict: 92% - Get it
Pros:
Superb Multiplayer experience
Realistic sounds
Maps with breakable walls
Cons:
Not the best Graphics on the Market, but still good
Poor AI
