Monster Dash - App Review
How do I control it?
Monster Dash is all about furious speed and shooting action, and these two elements are melded together beautifully. Like shooters of yore, the game is quite simple, yet challenging and addictive. You have just two buttons to worry about on the screen, a jump button and a shoot button.
Don’t worry about their placement, your finger and the shoot button will become well accustomed to each other in no time.
Running and shooting eh? I can handle that!
If you thought you’d just be running around levels shooting monsters till you’re blue in the face (and hands) well you’re right…and wrong. You’ll also have to contend with chasms that must be bounded over in classic platformer game style.
This prevents you from simply mashing that shoot button and forces you to do a little strategizing as well.
Step up your game
The final wrinkle in this game’s well-worn skin is the inclusion of a feature that increases your running speed as you progress through the game. Naturally, this makes it more and more difficult as you progress, as monsters and pits get on you quicker, and you have less time to figure out whether you want to cap that monster or jump over it.
The changing speed also affects your jumping ability, so you’ll never get too comfortably with the timing of the jumps and have the game turn into a cakewalk.
If looks could kill
The graphics are incredibly cute and pleasing to the eye, with super deformed characters reminiscent of classic RPG’s, and stylish backdrops on which the levels take place, such as a city with bright lights and flashy neon signs, and the Great Wall of China, with forests and mountains framed in the background.
The only small complaint on the graphical presentation is that the walkways you travel on are relatively sparse and barren of any accoutrements to spice them up.
How long will it last me?
Monster Dash is a thrilling game that will keep you coming back for more, and the challenge should be such that it will be a long time coming before you master it or grow tired of it. For just 99 cents you really can’t go wrong with this gem of a shooter. Be sure to check it out.
