Plants vs. Zombies - App Review
Well in Plants vs. Zombies, the turf is your yard, and the enemies are…the zombies (it wouldn’t be much fun stomping on plants all day after all…would it?).
And if you’re well-versed in your zombie lore, and chances are you are, as they’re a popular gaming staple these days, you’ll know that zombies love to shuffle mindlessly ahead, and that if they do get a hold of you, they’ll do untold things to your noggin (like gnaw on it). So don’t let them get a hold of you.
How on earth do I stop an army of zombies with a bunch of plants?
Luckily, the plants in your yard aren’t just any old garden-variety plants. They’re more like super plants that leech cosmic energy off the sun and use it to fry invading zombies with their powerful planty powers.
As each level begins and the zombies begin their slow shuffle across the screen towards your zombie-free domain, you can purchase and set up these plants to thwarts them.
Things are quite simple at first, as there are only a few different zombies yearning for your grey matter, and likewise, only a few different plants to combat them. But as you progress to later levels, different and more powerful zombies make their appearance, and you’re likewise given new plant toys to play around with.
Why should I play this over any other tower defense game?
Unlike most tower defense games, the zombies do not come along one or a couple pre-determined paths, but instead stream at you along several paths, all of which you must strategically block. This does give the game quite a different feel from the usual tower defense game, though some gamers may prefer the same old, same old more.
Beyond just the zombie-slaying action, the graphics and animations do a great job of drawing the user in and keeping them riveted. Zombies in numerous creative and hilarious ways, be it through their head flying off, their living corpse set aflame, or their undead flesh flattened into a zombie-pancake.
Yet it’s the constant new rewards and challenges that will keep you playing past your bedtime, as each new level gives you a new plant to play with, and a new challenge to overcome.
For a game that was originally $20 on the PC, it’s an absolute steal on the iPhone for just $2.99.
Platform – iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad (iOS 3.0 or later).
Genre – Tower Defense
Price - $2.99
Rating – 4.7/5
