Monopoly App
There’s nothing quite so fun as having your best bud land on your built-up Park Place and seeing him hand over half his wad of colorful money to you.
But how does it play on the iPhone?
Of course, playing a board game around a table, and playing it on an iPhone are two entirely different things, and one may not always translate to the other.
And while it’s not quite the same as playing people face-to-face, the game retains all the charm and enjoyment of its cardboard cousin.
The board is replicated perfectly in crisp visuals, allowing you to easily see the names of spaces, and read the descriptions of cards. Pieces get the added touch of having animations and effects as they move around the board (try pulling THAT off in real life), and the game plays swiftly.
If you are unfamiliar with Monopoly, this version comes with a handy tutorial that will teach you all the ins and outs of the game, and can even provide you with hints and strategy as you play.
While the game can seem slightly daunting to newcomers, it really is quite simple, and you’re bound to get the hang of it quickly. Much of what you do is dictated by where you end up landing, so let the dice guide your way, and your actions. Another added bonus with this version is that you can track your statistics while you play, which could help you become an even better player.
Great, but who can I play against?
Since Monopoly is all about the great interactions and battles between players, you naturally want to have the ability to play more than just the CPU (which is also an option). Thankfully you can start either a multiplayer game on one device and simply pass the iPhone around, or play over wi-fi. You can also go head to head against other players over Bluetooth.
The only thing missing from this digital edition of the great game are squabbles over the banker being a cheat, and arguments about how many spaces someone ACTUALLY moved. Otherwise this version is fully intact, and a great time-waster while on your daily commute. You really can’t go wrong in picking up this classic.
Platform – iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad (iOS 3.0 or later).
Genre – Board Game
Price - $0.99
RATING – 4.8/5
