Places to go before I die

So one day I was making my way down the street to the local supermarket to get some washing detergent. Walking thru the lane, I saw the convenience store, then the little aquarium, and the road where my aunt resides. I passed by a spice shop that was just adjacent to the clothes store. The store's assistants gave me a funny look which was all too familiar. Then I realized something - I've seen these things before! This life, the series of events, people, streets and places- I've been living this simple life for as long as my memory can remember. It sure had its good and bad times but I'm pretty much on this same plane for these past years - no flips, or twists, or turns.
This kind of monotony injected a revolutionary thought in my mind - CHANGE. I can't say if it's going to happen today, tomorrow or the coming year, but I've made up my mind: it's going to happen SOON. I want to take brave steps out of my own comfort zone and into the broader horizon - the wider world. There are just so many things out there which I haven't already tried or seen and it would turn out as a total shame if I don't try or see them.

So this is why I made an extensive list of all those beautiful places I'd like to leave my footprints on, explore and even live in (for many days or years) before death takes away my last breath. The list is so long that it's actually covering a longer distance than the space between my food cooler and Istanbul so I had to put in just a few names here. I hope though, that even as my list is short, my message will come across every pondering mind that's reading this - we have a wonderful world; a beautiful place full of adventure that's just waiting for you but one you'll never experience unless you put on your backpack and start exploring it yourself.

Vienna, Austria
If you happen to hear Billy Joel's song, just like me, you'll think of Vienna because it has the same name. The song was what primarily made me think of it. Pondering that in this life, whatever happens, "Vienna Waits for You" - that makes anyone feel so good. There's just something very serene about the place. The taxes may be through the roof and it could injure your pockets, but I bet you the healthcare's good and people have jobs. The violins played in the song create a really great tune and if violins are associated with a particular abode, then that place must be very awesome.

Tuscany, Italy
The truth is, I wouldn't mind wandering anywhere in Italy. It's gorgeously welcoming aura allures my senses! The footpaths paved with cobblestones, the lovely Mediterranean weather, the beaches boasting of cool and clear waters, the soccer and of course, the FOOD! Italy seems like every traveler's dream destination! Why did I choose Tuscany? Well, it's because me and my high school pal made an agreement of retiring in that place together, when the right time comes. Imagine two old women enjoying soccer at the sandy beach, basking under the warm Tuscan Sun. Now that just sounds surreal!

Tavira, Portugal
It sure is not enjoying as much popularity as Lisbon or the neighbouring big cities of Spain, but that's the very reason why I love Tavira. Located at the South of Portugal, the place IS actually one of the country's very few best-kept secrets. It doesn't just CLAIM itself as such but it truly IS one of Portugal's hidden treasures. Tavira, Portugal brags the perfect setting made of beautiful architecture intricately interwoven with all-natural sceneries- that's simply the perfect getaway for any person who wants to take his mind off from things for a while. What's more is that the cultural influences come from both Christians and Moors. That guarantees you an interesting mix of cultures!

Sigiriya, Sri Lanka
I've been to the place before but I just adored it so much that I wouldn't even mind visiting it again. Actually, Sigiriya is this giant rock located in Central Sri Lanka that used to be this gigantic citadel of the olden Ceylonese Kingdom. If you stand on top, you'll experience just how positively breathtaking the picturesque sight is. You get to view the rock shelters situated at the base plus the wall frescos placed higher up. Going to the topmost part, you'll walk a flight of stairs- some points are carefully carved into the big rock while the others are fitted in. Making my way up wasn't quite enjoyable because of my dear friend's tight death grip (that almost cut off the blood circulation in my poor hand) and her simultaneously tremulous journey through the steps, but I can assure all acrophobics that climbing this huge rock is an excellent way to overcome their fears.

Hawaii, America
America is certainly not part of my wish list. I'd never want to spend my whole life there unless if it is for the sake of getting a higher education. But that's about it; after school gets done I'll get the hell out of that notorious place. However, two names make me think twice - Honolulu, Hawaii and San Francisco, California. These areas constantly emerge as the whole country's best places to stay and live in. You guess it right; I prefer garlands, private cars, volcanoes, handy cams and dolphins than night clubs, so Hawaii's my perfect choice!
