As for Salonen, he's always been forward thinking, with his approach to both the future of opera and classical (and his own music) and he's not afraid of pop. Same with Viola, who generally, even at 10 mins aims for rapture and dislocation. Anything to drag opera out of its dusty crypt and into the 21st century. Nice post.
